BEACH RIDE
'Whoa Romeo!' said Louise Parker gently to her Brumbly stallion Romeo. He was 14.2 hands high and palomino. Louise had caught him 6 months ago on the same beach she was on now.He was completely wild and was the most difficult, wanted stallion in Australia. Louise was the person that caught him, tamed him and broke him in. 'Alright then - a trot!' said Louise chuckling.
She squeezed with her legs and Romeo sprang lightly into a trot. Romeo obviously remembered the beach, because 'trot'just wasn't fast enough. He kept pulling on the reins and tossing his head. Louise squeezed again and he bounced forward into a canter. They cantered along happily listening to the waves coming in and out, the gulls squawking up ahead.Louise listened to Romeo's steady canter beats, hooves lightly, slowly, bouncing on the sand, his steady breathing, gently blowing in and out. She squeezed again and leant slightly forward in the saddle. Romeo leaped into a gallop, snorting happily. Louise listened to the soft drumming of hooves, breathing and snorting noises Romeo made. She turned Romeo into the water and listened to the sound of his hooves crashing through the waves.
Romeo got excited and threw a big buck in the air, making a splashing noise when his hooves hit the water again. Louise laughed out loud as she kept her seat sitting to the buck. She brought him back to canter, then trot and walked him across the sand dunes heading home.
