Cross Border Project: ‘Writing Together’
This is a proposed collaboration between
Laois Teachers’ Centre and the SELB.
The plan is to bring teachers together across the border through a
writing project targetted at Primary 5 pupils.
Ten schools from the SELB and ten from Laois would be involved. The teachers would meet in conference, one
in Dublin and one in Armagh. T he children would write for one another,
possibly on-line.
OBJECTIVES:

To
foster and promote contacts between schools and teachers across the border
·
To
reduce psychological and academic isolation
·
To
promote the professional development of teachers
·
To
involve parents and raise awareness
·
To
impact on the wider community
·
To
provide an opportunity to develop the written language skills of pupils
·
To
raise awareness of language differences: words, phrases, expressions
·
To
examine the opportunity for language enrichment
·
To
investigate gender differences in relation to language use
·
To
provide opportunities for professional development for cross-border teams
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF
SCHOOLS:
·
Schools
would be selected in order to meet a representative balance of school types
·
Schools
would be selected who had agreed to give the time and commitment required
