Laois Heritage Project
Laois Heritage Society, in partnership with Laois Education Centre, intends holding a history/heritage competition open to all the schools in Laois and Offaly and environs, at primary and second level. We are also pleased to have the support of Offaly Historical and Archaeological Society.
Our society is keenly aware of the marvellous heritage of Laois and Offaly from the Stone Age hill-forts through to the Christian monastic settlements, and to the age of the plantation and the big houses. Our heritage of course is more than historical artefacts and heroes and heroines of our history.
The sponsors would like to enlist the help of students and teachers to celebrate their locality and county. In this regard your support would be much appreciated.
The competition will have two categories for both primary and secondary candidates; Individual and/or group projects.
a) Essay and b)Project Work Art and Design (2D or 3D in any media)
Students entering the competition are invited to consider one of the following themes
1. tales and folklore of their locality
2. historical remains: hill-forts, monasteries, stone circles, big houses, castles, urban or rural artefacts.
3. representation of historical events, personages and/or places.
