Laois Education Centre
Primary Child Protection Seminars – Autumn 2017
As you are aware, the Department of Education and Skills issued Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools in September 2011 (See Circular 00065/2011). All newly appointed Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) and Deputy Designated Liaison Persons (DDLP) are advised to attend child protection training in order to be clear about their role, and in order to ensure that all staff members understand their responsibilities under the Child Protection Procedures.
Please note that the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools referenced above along with the underpinning guidelines ‘Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children’, are currently being revised. The PDST therefore is also required to update its range of supports for schools in line with the revised procedures and new guidelines. Consequently we will be offering this in-service for the revised versions in Term 2 2018.
In the meantime however, due to demand from newly appointed DLPs and DDLPs for immediate training this term, the PDST is providing a one-day training course for newly appointed DLPs and DDLPs. Schools should note that this training will be based on Circular 0065/2011 (i.e. existing guidelines) which will be replaced by the revised versions accompanied by training in Term 2, 2018. We will keep you updated regarding this in-service which will become available to all schools in Term 2.
Places for the seminar this term (based on existing guidelines), is strictly reserved for newly appointed DLPs and DDLPs only.
The Department of Education and Skills will facilitate substitute cover where necessary.
