This session is only open to schools in LEC’s catchment area that attended information session
"FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge for 11-16 year olds (6th Class to TY) is a fun, robotics-based life skills competition for which teams develop an innovative solution to a real-world problem, and build and program an autonomous robot to complete LEGO missions. Throughout the process they develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, to support them in their future careers.
This information session for schools will lay out how FIRST LEGO League Challenge operates and how to access the competition locally. Schools who attend will also see LEGO robots in action, and will hear about a scheme run by Laois Education Centre which allows them to borrow a LEGO SPIKE Prime Kit, which is required to enter FIRST LEGO League Challenge. It is hoped to have this season's Laois/Offaly Regional Champion team attend to give a demonstration of their robot in action, and to present their Innovation Project to the audience.
The showcase will be facilitated by Learnit, who are the delivery partner for FIRST LEGO League Challenge in Ireland, and work in conjunction with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to manage funding available to schools to support their participation in the competition."
