Traveller Education Consultative Event 25.1.23

As part of our Community of Belonging project, we are looking at adding a section on traveller education to the current project. In order to do this, we feel that it would be important to listen to as many people as possible who are involved in education before we make any decisions on how to approach this important piece.

With this in mind, we are hosting a consultation afternoon and we would like to invite teachers to join us in Laois Education Support Centre on Jan. 25th at 4.00 pm to explore the topic of travellers and education locally. We hope that as many representatives as possible from local schools and agencies involved in supporting travellers in our catchment area will come along and contribute to the discussion.

David Denieffe, Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Registrar of SETU Carlow, will facilitate the discussion. A light lunch will be provided from 3.30 pm onwards.

Topics for discussion will be broad and inclusive and may possibly include areas such as:

• What is working well in our schools?
• Where are we challenged?
• How can we best communicate?
• How are we represented in schools?
• What would help build strong connections and a sense of belonging?
• Can the Education Support Centre help?
