Teacher & Artist partnership as CPD Model 18LSL104

This Course is FREE of charge.

This course looks at the ways in which working with an artist in school can be enhanced in order to provide meaningful experiences for children and a lasting impact on school practice.
Particular emphasis will be on the role of the teacher and artist, their unique contributions to projects and the significant benefits that can accrue from a dynamic teacher/artist relationship in the planning and implementation of projects. Placing the teacher/artist project within the overall Arts Curriculum in schools and exploration of practical issues will be central.

Throughout the course, the course speakers will talk about and share project ideas and a variety of activities from a project, which was successful completed through the teacher/artist residence.

The course will be both theory and practical based, there will be a focus on the relationship of the teacher and artist and how to successfully work together in the classroom.

Each day there will be theory and throughout the week there will be practical sections covering Art, Drama, Dance/Music and Literacy, these activities will be taken from the speaker's project. It is hoped that by the end of the week that participants will be more confident in working together as a teacher/artist partnership, they will have gained an insight into a project that was completed successfully and they may gain some ideas or activities that teachers can take back to their own classrooms or that artists can use on future projects.

Furthermore, there will be up to four residencies worth €1,000 each offered to up to four schools in Laois Education Centre catchment area only for whose teachers attend this course.

At the end of this course, schools in Laois Education Centre catchment area only may apply for an artist residency.  This involves an artist working in a school for a period of time (20 hours approx. including preparation & contact hours).  Laois Education Centre will fund the €1000 fee to artist to cover the cost of the residency.  To secure a place on this residency, it is preferable that two teachers attend from each school.

Please contact the Centre for more specific details if required.
