The Board of Management: Exploring Effective Practices - A panel discussion for members of Primary School Boards of Management 19.01.2021

This webinar will explore topics including:

- Communication within the Board of Management and developing good working relationships
- Communication and connecting with the school community
- Correspondence and Confidentiality

Panellists will offer practical advice, some 'take-away' actions and suggestions of effective practices.


Deirdre O’Donoghue
Deirdre works for Educate Together, providing support and training for Boards of Management. She provides a confidential advice service for Chairpersons and Principals.
She will be looking at communications within the board of management, an important aspect of good working relationships.

Bernard McHale
Bernard McHale is an experienced primary school principal and facilitator who works as Team Leader with the PDST Leadership Team. The team supports the professional learning of school leaders through their programmes Misneach, Tánaiste, Forbairt and Comhar as well as providing school based support for individual school leaders and school leadership teams. He will address issues of communication and connecting with the school community during this webinar.

Noreen Lawlor
Noreen Lawlor is Development and Training Executive with CPSMA (Catholic Primary Schools Management Association), a primary school management body that provides advice and support for Chairpersons and Principals of Boards of Management in over 2,800 schools. Noreen is going to address the topic of Board of Management correspondence – how it is presented, recorded and addressed in the course of a Board of Management meeting.

Brian O’Doherty
Brian is Principal of St. Patrick’s Loreto P.S. The school currently has an enrolment of just over 800 pupils and has 57 members of staff. Brian has been a member of IPPN since 2001 and was elected IPPN Deputy President/President-elect in June 2019 and will serve as president from September 2021 to August 2023.
