Child Protection: Roles and Responsibilities of Post-Primary School Teachers
This interactive session will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of teachers in the area of child protection including; an awareness of signs and symptoms of abuse, handling a disclosure from a child, mandatory reporting responsibilities and curricular provision. There will be time in this meeting for teachers to ask questions and seek clarifications in matters relating to child protection, mindful of confidentiality requirements.
Facilitator: Dr. Margaret Nohilly, Lecturer in SPHE and Wellbeing at Mary Immaculate College. She teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and co-ordinates the Professional Master of Education (PME) programme. Prior to working in Mary Immaculate, Margaret worked with the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) Her research interests includes Child Protection, SPHE, Wellbeing and Policy in Education. She is the co-author of the recently published ‘Wellbeing in Schools Everyday: A whole-school approach to the practical implementation of Wellbeing’.
